Jack Dunlap
This past week has been a very difficult one. My step dad, Jack, passed away early
Monday morning at 12:50 am. My mother, myself & his grand daughter were with
him when he went home to be with the Lord. He was laid to rest on Thursday
afternoon in Cunningham Memorial in St. Albans. I will miss him dearly! He was
a very straight-laced, no bullshit, tell you like it is, kind of guy. But he was also
very loving, caring & compasionate to those who knew him; & did he ever love his
grand children.
When I first moved back here to the state, he took me under his wing; guided me
& advised me whenever I needed it. He was more than just a step-dad to me; he had done the one thing that I never thought could be done. He stepped up, & into the shoes
that my father was forced to vacate 11 years ago. I looked at Jack not only as a father
figure, but also as a friend. When he first came home from the hospital, I worked with him often, trying to help him regain the use of his legs & arms. He would cuss me, & yell at me, & bitch the entire time I would help him. But he always told me thank you in the end. I was able to say my farewell to him before he passed. I spent quite a bit of time just talking to him, & telling how much I appreciated him & his efforts. He always supported me, even when he didn't share my beliefs. He was undoubtedly as loyal to his family as he was his country. And for that, he demanded & EARNED my love & respect. Jack, I will never forget you. I miss you so much, & will continuously thank God that I had the privelage to share a part of my life with you. I love you dad!
